There are three simple things parents can do to help prevent the flu.
Flu season has hit Houston hard this year. If you have young kids, it’s especially important to protect them from the flu virus, because they have a greater chance of getting very sick.
The good news is, there are a few simple things you can do reduce your family’s chances of catching the flu.
Tips for preventing the spread of the flu
1. Get flu shots for the whole family. It’s not too late to get a flu shot. Doctors recommend that anyone older than six months should get one. This includes pregnant women.
2. Wash your hands often, and make sure your kids do, too. It can be hard to keep little hands clean, but it’s so important during flu season. Help your kids wash their hands with soap and water often, for at least 20 seconds.
3. Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze. To help prevent the spread of germs, use a tissue, your sleeve, or your elbow to cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze. Avoid using your hand.
